I started my training as a toddler, gripping the earth as I crawled around the new horizons. Throughout my life, I had the fortune of having parents that appreciated a child covered in dirt. And we were always planting something- vegetables, perennials, herbs, you name it. Over the years I continued exploring my natural world, graduating from the University of Colorado with an Environmental Science degree. During my undergraduate, I traveled to Australia and earned a certificate in Permaculture Design from Crystal Waters Eco Village. Since then I have worked with Wee Bee Farms, a fantastic garlic farm in Longmont, CO, an organic produce company, and Boulder County Going Local (now Transition Boulder County). While earning a Masters of Sustainable Business Administration from Green Mountain College in Vermont,

I started working as the garden coordinator for the Garden to Table program, installing and working with 14 elementary school gardens in Boulder Valley School District. With permaculture as my passion, I also co-facilitated and taught a Permaculture Design Certification course at The Farmette in Lyons, CO. Now in gorgeous Asheville, NC, I am also co-owner of The Ruby Roost — a learning center and retreat located just outside of Marshall, NC. YummyYards is an extension of my passion to teach people about how to grow their own food, beautifully — and sustainably. Since arriving I also have the pleasure of teaching with Wild Abundance, so please check them out, too!

The (Heritage) Ducklings are on Their Way

As I stepped outside of the house at 7am yesterday, I was greeted with an abundance of birdsongs and chirps not heard since last fall.  My heart, too, sang, as I took a deep breath of the humid 65 degree spring air.  After a quick breakfast, I met my mom and cousin and we […]

Real Food for School Lunches

This one is an oldie, but goodie, highlighting the changes that were starting to be made in Boulder Valley School District back in 2008. Thanks to the everything-eco-and-wholesome media outlet Elephant Journal for bringing up this important, and surprisingly controversial topic.  Students should have healthy food options at schools.  Period. “…ask why responsible adults would […]
